First Stage of Purification

THE FIRST STAGE OF PURIFICATION

THE SEVEN ORGANS OF THE BODY

A Person’s heart is the most valuable possession. One must actively safeguard the heart from the darkness that enters when a sin is committed. In the first stage of purification, you are taught how to erect doors preventing the darkness from entering the heart.

The seven sensual organs of the body by which sin can be committed are:

Sins relating to various parts of the body

When one commits a sin through one or more of the sensual organs, a black dot appears on the heart. If the person does not repent then gradually the whole heart becomes tarnished with darkness, and as a consequence, one fails to differentiate between truth and falsehood, goodness and evil, which ultimately results in one’s heart becoming blind and heedless.

In order to remove the stains of darkness from the heart, one must apply the methodology of purifying the organs by individually cleansing the limbs, one organ at a time.

You firstly begin purifying the tongue by abstaining from the sins of this organ for thirty consecutive days and recording your progress. Upon successfully completing the tongue sheet you then start the ears sheet in the same way.

By the end of the second sheet, you should be able to abstain from the sins related to the tongue and ears. You continue purifying your organs in this way until you complete all the sheets relating to the 7 sensual organs. Progressing further you begin the second stage of the path, which is the purification of the mind.

By adopting this process of purification, progressively, day by day you begin to steadily attain the nearness of Allah the Exalted.

Purification can not be done by merely listening to a discourse or reading a book. You must practically stop from the sins. Same as we do for driving, watching, or reading on how to drive does not make you a driver. You need a teacher to show and teach you, after some time and practice you will be able to drive on your own.

After you have control over the organs you will then be taught how to use them in a positive and beneficial way. This will improve your relationship with Allah swt, The Prophet Muhammad (salallahu alayhi wasalam), Parents, Siblings, Relatives, Friends, Work Colleagues, etc.
