SPIRITUAL ASPECT OF THE LIFE OF PROPHET MUHAMMAD ﷺ
The spiritual/inner aspect; its apex is the Ascension or the Mi’raj (the night journey to heavens and the Lord of heavens) of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ
SPIRITUAL ENLIGHTENMENT AND ITS PURPOSE
Just as the biography and life of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ is a model for us in respect to outward obedience, likewise is the Mi'raj. The ascension of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ is a model for our spiritual advancement. It serves as a universal spiritual master map and outlines the landmarks, pitfalls and signpost for the seeker.
SEVEN LEVELS OF CERTAINTY
- ILM UL YAQEEN
(RELIABLE INFORMATION)
“Knowledge of Certainty” [102:5] - AQL-UL-YAQEEN:
INTELLECTUAL CERTAINTY - QALB-UL-YAQEEN:
CERTAINITY OF THE HEART - ‘AYN UL YAQEEN
SEEING WHAT YOU BELIEVE
“Eye of Certainty” [102:7] - NAFS-UL-YAQEEN
CERTAINTY OF SOUL /NAFS - RUH-UL-YAQEEN
CERTAINTY OF SPIRIT - HAQQ-UL-YAQEEN
(INTERACTING EXPERIENCE)
“Truth / reality of certainty”[56:95]
IN THE QUR'AN IT IS STATED:
“And thus did we show Ibraheem the Malakoot (angelic realm / governing forces) of the heavens and the earth, and so by this he would be of the Muqineen (those who have Yaqeen - certainty / firm conviction)”. [6:75]
Without doubt, Prophet Ibraheem عليه السلام was a prophet and believer of truth and Haqq-ul Yaqeen (Certainty), but when Allah, the Exalted showed him the spiritual reality beyond and above the material world (i.e the Malakoot, angelic realm) his degree of Yaqeen was increased.
THE FOUR OBJECTIVES of spiritual ascension
FIRST OBJECTIVE
Is to raise the degrees of belief to the highest level: The belief on the realities upon which a Muslim already believes like the existence of Allah the Exalted, the Prophets عليه السلام, unseen realities like Barzakh (life after death), Angels, Heavens, the Divine Throne, the Divine Chair, Paradise and Hell reaches the highest degree of certainty “Haqq-ul Yaqeen” which has been mentioned above.
This leads the servant to increase his or her love, obedience, worship, sincerity and the presence of Allah سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَى to new heights. He/she lives a life as though he/she is seeing Allah, the exalted and Allah is seeing him/her.
SECOND OBJECTIVE
To reach such proximity and closeness to the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ that he witnesses and achieves his presence to the level that the Seeker is able to see and communicate with him in the spiritual realm in the state of wakefulness.
This helps the seeker to excel in his love, obedience and to live a life, following
the prophetic way known as “Sunnah”.
THIRD OBJECTIVE
This also results in knowing that the creation of Allah is there to see as to how the servant interacts and deal with it. So the seeker becomes a means of love, mercy and compassion for the creation, always striving to benefit them in this world and hereafter without expecting any reward from them.
Rather he forgives the one who harms him, returns the evil with goodness, loves the one who ignores him, joins ties with those who cut ties with him, gifts the one who deprives him, wills goodness for the one who wills to destroy him, honours the one who dishonours him. He becomes like a magnet to which the creation is are attracted to, be it humans, animals or birds.
FORTH OBJECTIVE
He does all the above to seek the end of all ends, which is the infinite pleasure of Allah, the most Merciful ...
And does not seek appreciation, reward, acknowledgment, compensation and praise from the creation.
